Hartwick Welcomes Author, Editor, for Publishing LectureApril 18, 2012
Children's Author Joanne Mattern will give a lecture titled "A Career in Publishing" at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 in the Chesebro Room, Dewar Union, on the Hartwick College campus. Her presentation is free, and the public is invited to attend.
At Morrow Junior Books, Mattern worked with authors including Beverly Cleary, Johanna Hurwitz, and Norma Fox Mazer, co-editing the later's 1987 Newbury Honor Book, After the Rain. Subsequently, as an editor and writer at Troll Associates, she helped launch imprint Bridgewater Books and published her first work, A Picture of Birds.
Since 1996, Mattern has worked as a freelance writer and editor, contracting with major publishers including Capstone, Scholastic, Rosen, Enslow, Gareth Stevens, ABDO, and Rourke. In the educational publishing realm, he has created test passages and questions and classroom materials for Macmillan, CTB McGraw-Hill, Harcourt, and other major academic publishers.
