Hartwick Welcomes French Language Theatre TroupeOctober 28, 2011
Buffalo, NY-based theatre company Le Théâtre de la Chandelle Verte will present "La Farce de Maître Pathelin" at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1 in the Celebration Room of Shineman Chapel House on the Hartwick College campus. Admission to the play is free, and the public is invited to attend. The performance will be in French, but is accessible to all levels of proficiency.
Le Théâtre de la Chandelle Verte is an alliance of professional artists and scholars from universities across the United States, dedicated to performing theatre in French to audiences nationwide.
They believe in the educational value of touring professionally staged French language theatre productions to high-school and college students, francophones, and Francophiles living in the United States. The group finds inspiration in the rich tradition of itinerant French theatre troupes dating back to the fifteenth century, and like them, strive to fit an entire production into a single traveling suitcase.
Le Théâtre de la Chandelle Verte is trained in both the theory and practice of French language theatre and have been touring innovative and visually stimulating productions in French throughout the United States since 2001.
The performance is sponsored by the Foreman Institute of Creative and Performing Arts and the Hartwick College Department of Modern Languages.
