Hartwick College to Host “ONtheEDGE” Art Exhibit

January 4, 2013

From Thursday, January 10 through Saturday, February 16, 2013, Hartwick College's Art and Art History Department will host a two-person art exhibition entitled "ONtheEDGE" featuring large scale paintings of Carlos Fragoso. Accompanying these paintings will be the work of ceramicist Audrie Sturman.

The exhibition, organized through the Katharine T. Carter & Associates, will take place in the Foreman Gallery on the College campus with a reception with the artists on Thursday February 14, 2013 from 4:30-6 p.m. The Foreman Gallery will have abbreviated hours during J Term, including Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. Other times can be accommodated by appointment. The exhibition is free and the public is invited to attend.

"The surreal, almost pagan scenes depicted in many of Fragoso's paintings are juxtaposed with the serene, zen-like movement felt in Sturman's sculpture," said Foreman Gallery Exhibit Coordinator Nancy Golden. "This is a very dynamic exhibition of the works of two incredibly talented artists."

"Fragoso experiments within the startling construct of a daytime dream. Invested with what may be regarded as surreal moments," according to Art Critic Edward Leffingwell.

Sturman's work is spontaneous. According to the ceramicist, she uses "the rhythms of nature to inspire sculptural groupings."
