Hartwick Commencement Events Planned for May 23-24May 2, 2014
On Saturday, May 24, Hartwick College will celebrate the Class of 2014 during the College's 83rd Commencement exercises. Faculty, staff, family, and friends will gather at 11:30 a.m. on Elmore Field to recognize graduates' accomplishments throughout their time spent at Hartwick College.
"The Hartwick community looks forward to celebrating the Class of 2014 and their many achievements," said Commencement Co-coordinator and Dean of Student Life Taralyn Loewenguth. "As the pinnacle event of our students' undergraduate careers, being part of this tradition is an honor and a wonderful experience for our graduates and their guests."
"Commencement weekend is a truly memorable event for our graduating seniors, their families, and friends," added Commencement Co-coordinator and Registrar and Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs Matt Sanford. "We look forward to sharing this special occasion with them."
The weekend-long celebration will begin with the President's Farewell Dinner with the senior class on Thursday evening, followed by the Senior Art Exhibition Reception and Nurses Pinning Ceremony on Friday afternoon. The Art Reception will take place at 1 p.m. in the Foreman Gallery and the Nurses Pinning Ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Lambros Arena, Binder Physical Education Center.
The Class of 2014 will convene at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 23, for this year's Baccalaureate ceremony at Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center, located at 24 Market St. in Oneonta, NY. A Hartwick tradition, Baccalaureate student speakers Elizabeth Greco '14, Jenna Rodrigues '14 and Benjamin Yacavone '14 will reflect on their time at Hartwick, and will be joined by Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Tina M. Dalrymple, who will offer parting words of wisdom to the soon-to-be graduates.
Following Baccalaureate, graduates and their families are invited to celebrate the countdown to Commencement during "1 To Go," sponsored by the Hartwick College Alumni Association. The gathering will honor the Class of 2014 and will take place at Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center.
On Saturday, May 24, this year's 377 degree candidates will undertake the transition from Hartwick student to Hartwick alumni during the College's 83rd Commencement exercises.
Hartwick College's 2014 Commencement speaker will be Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group David H. Long, a member of the Hartwick College Class of 1983. Long is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, a Fortune 100 global insurance company with revenues of $36.9 billion in 2012. Based in Boston, MA, Liberty Mutual operates in more than 25 countries worldwide.
