Robin DianaHartwick College is pleased to announce the appointment of Robin Diana as Director of the Office of the First Year Experience. She will assume her new duties on February 14.

Diana brings to Hartwick more than 25 years of higher-education experience, including work in admissions, residence life, and most notably, first-year programming and services. During a seven-year period at Rochester Institute of Technology, Diana served as first year experience coordinator, associate director of the Center for Student Transition and Support, and director of first-year enrichment and orientation, among other responsibilities. At RIT, she was a key player in improving retention of first-year students by creating a first-year experience modeled on national best practices. In so doing, she collaborated with faculty and staff members from across the institution.

"I am excited about Robin Diana joining our team as we work together to develop, implement, and maintain an intentional, integrated, and successful first-year program at the College," Hartwick Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael G. Tannenbaum said. "Her deep passion for students and diverse experiences at both public and private institutions have brought her to a comprehensive and holistic understanding of higher education in general, and in particular, the critical importance of the first year to college students' success."

At Hartwick, Diana will report to Tannenbaum and will oversee the newly established Office of the First Year Experience, where she will play a leadership role in helping the College implement a systematic and comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of first-year students. Diana will work with faculty and staff to oversee planning and coordination of Orientation, Welcome Weekend, First Year Seminars, and other elements of the First Year Experience, including assessment of its effectiveness.

"I am thrilled to be part of a dynamic liberal arts and student-centered institution, where faculty and staff are genuinely concerned about the academic and personal success of the student," Robin said. "Hartwick's organizing principle and strategic framework will guide our collective decision making as we create an innovative first-year experience. Together, I am confident we will make a difference in the lives of our students."

Diana is a graduate of SUNY College at Brockport, where she earned her bachelor's degree in communication. She also holds a master's degree in student personnel administration from Buffalo State College. Highlights of her career experience include service in residence life at University of Dayton, Hope College, and SUNY Cortland, and director of new-student and residential life programs at Buffalo State College.
