Hartwick Offers Lecture on Fair Trade OrganizingJanuary 20, 2012
On Tuesday, January 24, Hartwick College will welcome Shannon O'Neill, director of the Bowman Center for Women at Siena College. O'Neill will give a lecture titled "Organizing Fair Trade Colleges and Universities." The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Eaton Lounge, on the second floor of Bresee Hall on the Hartwick College campus. This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
O'Neill's talk will cover organizing a fair trade university campaign, the challenges to securing institutional commitment to fair trade and harnessing the purchasing power of the institution for conscientious consumption.
O'Neill has a Ph.D.in Social Psychology from SUNY Albany and teaches at Sienna College in the Women's Studies minor. She spearheaded the fair trade campaign at Siena, which was declared a Fair Trade College in October of 2010. She also serves on the National Fair Trade Universities Steering Committee.
