Lecture at Hartwick to Celebrate Title IX AnniversarySeptember 17, 2012
Hartwick College Athletic Director Dr. Kim Fierke and Hartwick College Women's Field Hockey Head Coach Anna Meyer will offer a lecture on Title IX at noon on Wednesday, September 26 in the Eaton Lounge, Bresee Hall on the College campus. The presentation is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The goal of the lecture at Hartwick College is to celebrate the anniversary of Title IX and women's sports. Throughout the discussion, Fierke will speak about Title IX from a NCAA regulations perspective. Meyer will discuss Title IX through a historical lens, such as how the how the amendments impact education and sports.
Title IX is a federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions, and is fully referred to as the "Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972" (amending the Higher Education Act of 1965). This act is codified as Title 20, United States Code, Chapter 38, Sections 1681-1686. The act was also amended by the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 ("Title IX").
