'U.S. News' Ranks Hartwick Among the Best National Liberal Arts CollegesSeptember 13, 2011
U.S. News & World Report has once again ranked Hartwick College among the first-tier Best National Liberal Arts Colleges in its 2012 edition of Best Colleges guidebook, with a ranking of 171, up three places from last year.
Hartwick's selectivity was a significant factor in the higher ranking, with an acceptance rate of 76 percent.
"This ranking once again recognizes Hartwick's continued dedication to academic quality, experiential learning, a collaborative learning environment, and strong programs and faculty," Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing David Conway said. "As a Best National Liberal Arts College, we continue to offer our students an exceptional and affordable liberal arts education."
The magazine annually rates more than 1,400 colleges and universities on 16 indicators of excellence, including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, class size, student selectivity, alumni giving, and graduation rate.
Earlier this year, Princeton Review named Hartwick a Best in the Northeast college and Forbes maintained Hartwick's inclusion in its list of the Top 600 colleges and universities in the nation. This year's U.S. News ranking again places Hartwick among the magazine's 178 top-ranked liberal arts colleges in the country. Among the College's noted strengths are affordability, curriculum, internships and study-abroad opportunities. Students praise Hartwick's small class size, double and triple majors, and easily approachable teachers.
The rankings, as well as recent incoming classes, reflect Hartwick's commitment to a high-quality, strong, affordable liberal arts education. This year, the College received more than 6,300 applications, a more than 50 percent increase over last year.
