Education Club Paints Kids' Pumpkins Saturday

October 6, 2010

Saturday, October 9, the Hartwick College Education Club will be in attendance at the Oneonta Farmers' Market offering free pumpkin painting for kids, to help celebrate the market's annual Pumpkin Day event. Painting will begin at 10 a.m. and last until supplies run out.

The Hartwick College Education Club is a student-led group dedicated to the enrichment and education of children of all ages. The club organizes and executes a broad collection of activities throughout the school year.

"As part of our more enthusiastic initiative to reach out into the Oneonta community, our members began brainstorming local activities. Becca Laders ['12] mentioned the Farmers' Market, and we knew it would be a fantastic opportunity," said Shane Abrams '11, Co-President of Education Club. "The group is thrilled to support the community that supports us."

In addition to the pumpkin-painting festivities at the Oneonta Farmers' Market, Ed Club also is planning several other upcoming fall events. On the docket are two exciting occasions. First, students will partake in the traditional Halloween party in conjunction with Riverside School. Second, in a brand-new event, Education Club invites young adults from the Oneonta community to attend Hartwick's First Poetry Slam on Monday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Laura's Café, Dewar Union on the Hartwick campus.
