Von Stengel’s Films Shown in Minneapolis

July 14, 2009

Assistant Professor of Art Joseph Von Stengel was among scores of artists, professional and amateur, to take part in the "10-second Film Festival" hosted by the Minneapolis, MN gallery The Soap Factory. The festival was held immediately following the city's Independence Day fireworks display on July 4.

Von Stengel's films were selected from among thousands of entries to shown alongside the 100 films on view that night. The outdoor festival has earned the adjective "raucous," as its entries are crafted mostly through the use of "alternative video technologies" such as cell phones and still cameras with video functions.

"The result is a film festival that assaults you with some of the silliest, funniest, weirdest and most thought-provoking ten second-long films you'll see all summer," the gallery proclaimed.

The Soap Factory is based in the historic National Purity Soap Factory in downtown Minneapolis. It is "dedicated to the production, presentation and promotion of emerging contemporary practice across the visual arts. Committed to experimentation and risk-taking, The Soap Factory offers audiences a real and immediate experience of the arts, encouraging a wider understanding of and appreciation for artists and their work."
