Meghan Sheehy

Associate Professor of Music Education

Meghan K. Sheehy received her B.M.Ed., M.M. in Music Education, and Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Southern Mississippi. Her dissertation, A Quantitative Analysis of the Relationship Between K-12 Music Educators and Collegiate Music Education Researcher and Instructors: Is There a Disconnect? was supervised by Dr. Steven R. Moser, and focused on interpreting the relationship between music researchers and practitioners to determine if and where disconnect may exist.

As a K-12 educator, Dr. Sheehy has served as high school Director of Bands, assistant band director, middle school band director, elementary general music teacher, and high school choir director. Her primary instrument is french horn, for which she studied under Mr. Denny Behm at the University of Southern Mississippi and the late Dr. Robert Pruzin of the University of South Carolina. As a secondary student, Meghan attended the year-round Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk and the summer Governor’s School for the Arts in Furman, South Carolina.

She is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Music Education at Hartwick College where she also acts as Director of Music Education, supervises student teacher candidates, and teaches subject-area courses required for the B.S. in Music Education degree. Ongoing research interests include the relationship between researchers and practitioners in music education, the music ensemble Snarky Puppy, and music teacher education reform.
