Sustainability at Hartwick

Sustainability: a Hartwick value for more than 40 years.
Hartwick's commitment to sustainability dates back at least 40 years, to the purchase of the Pine Lake Environmental Campus in 1971. Students built Hartwick's first natural building, a log cabin at Pine Lake, in the mid-1970s.

In the past decade alone, Hartwick has witnessed one sustainability landmark after another:

Construction of the Strawbale House at Pine Lake (2002)
Creation of the Pine Lake Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Studies (2007)
Completion of the LEED-certified Golisano Hall (2008)
Construction of Arnold Rain Garden (2009)
Launch of the Green Grants program for funding sustainability initiatives (2010)
Completion of the Cob House at Pine Lake (2011)

And that's not all -- since 2002, we've been exploring sustainability from a lot of different angles through Hartwick's annual campus theme.
