The Center for Sustainable Living

For more than 30 years, Hartwick has been committed to sustainability. Our work began with the purchase of the Pine Lake Environmental Campus, which today houses a community of students practicing sustainability initiatives, provides classes, lectures and workshops for students on sustainability and serves as a location for all of the Hartwick community to enjoy a natural setting.

A campus-wide effort has been underway for many years to integrate a variety of courses/experiences centered on themes of sustainability: WaterWorks, Food in Our Lives, Health and the Human Experience, Globalization, Sustainable Living). These Annual Academic Themes provide the Hartwick community with the opportunity to work together to learn about a complex and significant topic. Every year, the College offers unique courses, brings in national and international experts, and organizes special activities such as films and museum exhibitions.

We've even made a movie that discusses the importance of sustainability to Hartwick College. Many clips from this movie can be found on the Pine Lake Environmental Campus Web site. Discussion and data analysis pertaining to sustainability for the Campus, and Campus Talloires Committee, is available via Blackboard (all members of the Hartwick Community have access). Below, you will find information pertaining to Hartwick's ongoing commitment to a sustainable campus and community.
