MANY CAREER PATHS

Understanding how gender identity impacts everyday living is a strong foundation for any career where you aim for equity and understanding. Hartwick’s Women’s and gender studies courses invite you to study and critique all forms of oppression including class, race, sex, violence, militarism, ecological destruction, political inequality and more.

Pair with political science or sociology to join the fight against gender-based oppression, or with nursing with an aim to increase inclusiveness in healthcare outcomes.

Whatever your focus, you’ll have opportunities to work with faculty mentors on their research, network with alumni working in your field, and present your thesis as part of our annual Student Showcase.

EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITIES

You’ll get a hands-on education from your first day in the classroom. With internship and research opportunities, you’ll get real-world work experience that can broaden your career horizons and set you up for success.

J Term trips abroad and domestically will strengthen your understanding of gender in cultures outside of your own. And Hartwick’s own inclusive community will foster your desire to build a more inclusive world off campus.

AN EDUCATION BUILT FOR YOU

This interdisciplinary minor invites you to take a wide range of courses, from medieval art and world music to courses in sociology, political science and religion.

Delve deep into “Controversial Social Issues.” Study “Gender Identity in The Middle Ages.” Study feminism through the camera lens with “Introduction to Photography” or learn about the femme fatale in “Novel and Film Noir.”

However you pair and use your women’s and gender studies minor, you’ll be prepared to make a difference on campus and in the larger world.
