Career Plans: Attend graduate school to earn a doctor of physical therapy
Major decisions: I always wanted to be a psych major. When I came to Hartwick, I enrolled as a psych major and started right away in the pre-med program, so I always knew that I would have options. Then I started to see that physical therapy was a nice blend of the psych and the science.
Special experiences: This past summer, I went to Nepal on an Emerson International Internship Scholarship, and it was by far the most amazing experience I’ve had in my life. My placement was perfect. I volunteered in the physical therapy department of a hospital in Jorpati and lived in Batisputtali, a 20-minute bus ride away. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. Honestly, I didn’t want to come home. I’ve been to Trinidad and Ireland. They were both good experiences, but people always say, Nepal draws you back, and I can guarantee you that if I ever have a chance to go back, I will.
Going to Nepal made me consider that maybe I don’t have to follow that exact ladder to “success,” to a happy and stable life. I should take more time for myself, relax, go somewhere with time just to enjoy this world. I want success and a family, but I don’t want to get stuck on the same road that everyone else has followed.
About my professors: The professors on this campus are absolutely amazing. I feel if I’d gone to a big university, things would be so different in my life right now. The professors here treat you like you are on the same level. There’s a lot of nice give and take, in classes and out.
