Jennifer Motyka Dwight

Class of 1998
Field Hockey

 

Jennifer Motyka Dwight graduated from Hartwick College as a two-time All-American and the program’s all-time leading scorer in field hockey. A prodigious scorer, Motyka tallied Hartwick records of 67 goals and 150 points in her career. She helped lead the 1996 field hockey team to the NCAA Championship game and was named to the All-Tournament team at the final four after scoring a pair of goals in the national semifinals. As a freshman, she was the leading scorer on a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, and as a sophomore helped the Hawks win an ECAC Tournament title. She was selected as a second-team All-American after her junior and senior seasons, and was a regional All-America selection all four years. After graduation she served as an assistant coach at Hamilton College, and was later the first-ever field hockey coach at SUNY-New Paltz when that school started its program.




Vin DeGregorio

Class of 2000
Lacrosse

 

Vin DeGregorio was one of the most decorated players in Hartwick lacrosse history. He was the first four-time All-America selection in Hartwick men’s lacrosse history. He was named the Super Six lacrosse conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 1997, and was a first-team All-Star selection in the Super Six and Empire 8 as a junior and senior. A defender who was known for his ability to lock down the opponent’s top scorer, he ranks second all-time at Hartwick with 342 career ground balls. He was a team captain in both his junior and senior seasons, and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star game after his senior year. DeGregorio twice won Hartwick’s M. Beale Banks award, one of the school’s highest athletic honors, given annually to the athlete who pursues excellence in their sports and inspires others with their dedication and commitment.


Ian Ritcey

Class of 1995
Lacrosse

 

Ian Ritcey was a two-time All-America selection in men’s lacrosse and graduated as Hartwick’s all-time leader in goals and points. He set school marks with 175 career goals and 227 career points. At the time of induction, his career goals total was 41 more than the next man on the list. In 1995 he helped lead Hartwick to it’s first-ever NCAA Tournament bid in men’s lacrosse, and helped the Hawks to win two ECAC titles. Earlier that season he set a school record with 10 goals in a game against Lynchburg. Ritcey was a four time All-Conference pick, and was named MVP in the prestigious North-South All-Star game at the end of his senior season. As a freshman, he was named Hartwick’s Outstanding Male Freshman Athlete, and as a senior he was recognized as the school’s Harry Mosher Award winner as the athlete that best personifies courage, humility and unselfish dedication to his team.


Jennifer Vilord Hazard

Lacrosse

 

Jennifer Vilord Hazard was a record setting member of the women’s lacrosse team at Hartwick. She was a two-time All-America selection, named a first-team pick as a senior. As a senior she was one of the leading scorers in the nation as she tallied 84 goals and 110 points. Her 110 points and 84 goals were both school records. She finished her career with 305 points, which, at the time of her graduation, was the fifth best total in the history of Division III women’s lacrosse. A talented offensive player that could create opportunities as well as score, Vilord set school career records for points, goals and assists.  She helped Hartwick to advance to the NCAA tournament in 1992 and 1995, and to an ECAC Tournament in 1994. She was a four-time All-State selection, and was selected for the North-South All-Star game at the end of her senior year. She was selected as Hartwick’s female athlete of the year as senior.


Kelly James Huhtala

Class of 1993
Basketball

 

Kelly James Huhtala was selected as just the second All-American in the history of Hartwick College women’s basketball. A two-time Empire Athletic Association player of the year as a junior and senior, James was an honorable mention All America pick as a senior when she averaged more than 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. She was the ECAC Upstate New York Rookie of the year as a freshman. She graduated as the second-leading scorer in the history of Hartwick women’s basketball with 1,529 points. At the time of her induction she ranks third in career rebounding, and in the top 10 in career steals and assists. She led the women’s basketball team to three straight NYSWCAA tournaments, and back-to-back 20-win seasons. She was the school’s freshman female athlete of the year in 1990, and twice won the school’s M. Beale Banks Award, given annually to the athlete who pursues excellence in their sports and inspires others with their dedication and commitment.


Jeff Tipping

Class of 1978
Soccer

Jeff Tipping appeared as either a player or coach for Hartwick College men’s soccer team in five NCAA Final Fours. As a player, Tipping started for four years and appeared in three NCAA Final Fours. His play helped lead the team to the 1977 NCAA Championship and was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the final four. Drafted into the American Soccer League, he was captain of the Pennsylvania Stoners for five seasons, earning All-Pro recognition three times (1979-81) and winning the league title in 1980. A knee injury cut short his playing career in 1982. He returned to Hartwick as an assistant men’s soccer and head lacrosse coach in 1982, and helped Hartwick to two more final four appearances. He later became Director of Soccer and men’s golf coach at Muhlenberg College, and led the soccer team to the Division III Final Four in 1995, and the golf team to a NCAA bid in 1997.  He became an NSCAA Staff Coach in 1983 and also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team, providing advisory prior to the 1999 Women’s World Cup.  In 2002 he was named Director of Coaching Education for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.


Jerry O'Grady

Class of 1984
Basketball

 

Jerry O’Grady earned All-America honors from two organizations following his senior year as a member of the Hartwick College basketball team. O’Grady was honored by both the National Basektball Coaches Association and Basketball Weekly magazine after a year in which he averaged better than 20 points per game while captaining Hartwick to an 18-5 record. For his career, O’Grady scored 1,250 points, which ranked eighth in school history at the time of graduation. He also ranked among the schools top 10 in assists at the time of graduation, with 271 in his career. He helped the Hawks to an NCAA Tournament bid in 1983, their first in Division III. In his four year career, Hartwick posted a record of 69-28.
