Walter Piepke

Men's Soccer

Walter Piepke was the first men's soccer player to be a two-time All-American. He was honored after the 1962 and 1964 seasons.

He ranked ninth all-time in scoring with 84 points and sixth in career goals with 42 at the time of his induction. Piepke's point total does not include assists. Records for assists were not available.

Piepke, a four-year player, was an All-State selection in 1961, 1962 and 1964.

He helped Hartwick to a 37-5 record from 1961-64. The team made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including the first-ever trip in 1962.


Tony Martelli

Men's Soccer

Tony Martelli was the first men's soccer player at Hartwick to be awarded first-team All-American status. He was chosen for that honor after the 1963 season.

He was an All-State selection in 1962 and was team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Martelli, a sweeper, helped Hartwick to a 29-5 record during his three varsity seasons, including the squad's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in the 1962 season.

Martelli had great success in high school coaching. He was a 1995 inductee to the New York State High School Coaches Hall of Fame. Martelli had a 249-54-23 career record at Washingtonville High School, where he coached 1984 graduate and Hartwick Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Hawkins.

Martelli was in his 15th season with the Army men's soccer coaching staff at the time of his induction.


Ken Ford

Swimming

Ken Ford is the first male swimmer to be inducted into the Hartwick College Athletic Hall of Fame.

He finished with eight All-American honors over three seasons, including four during his senior year. He held school records at the time of his induction in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Ford held or was part of eight school records at the time of his graduation.

Ford, who was a six-time state champion, helped Hartwick to a 41-5 record in his four seasons. The 1991-92 squad went a perfect 12-0.

He was on the 1992 Eastern Water Polo Association All-Conference Team and was the most valuable player of the sport club division at the 1992 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Tournament.

Ford was the M. Beal Banks Award winner in 1994, was the Outstanding Male Freshman Athlete in 1991 and won the Douglas McDevitt Award for the 1993-94 season. He served as an assistant swim coach at Hartwick during the 1994-95 season.


Deirdre Kennedy Ollendike

Women's Lacrosse

Deirdre Kennedy Ollendike was the first four-time All-American in women's lacrosse history at Hartwick. She was a first-team All-American in her final three seasons.

Kennedy was named the 1993 National Division III Offensive Player of the Year. She finished her career with 216 goals and 63 assists for 279 points. The goals and points totals were Hartwick records and ranked in the top five in NCAA history at the time of her graduation.

Kennedy was a key in helping Hartwick turn its women's lacrosse program around. The team won 43 games in her four seasons and made postseason appearances every year. Kennedy and the 1992 team made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Kennedy was selected Regional All-American and gained All-State first-team honors in all four years. She was a captain in her final three seasons and was a three-time team most valuable player.

Kennedy was honored with the Margaret Lunn Award in 1993.
