In addition to receiving her Ph.D. in philosophy from Boston University in 1998, Professor Rocknak has received numerous fellowships, including a 1997 Research Fellowship at the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna, Austria, and a 1998-99 DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). In addition to being a philosopher, Professor Rocknak is also a professional sculptor, whose work has been shown throughout the United States, including New England, California, New York City and most recently, Berlin, Germany. She has also been featured in numerous national publications and ezines. As with her philosophy, her work is historically influenced, but only in terms of learning a technique that transcends the eccentricities of personal expression; there is much to be learned, she claims, from responsibly participating in a tradition of artistic formulation. Her work may be seen at: http://www.steffrocknak.net.
Her message to potential students is: "You're in for an intellectual adventure if you take one of my classes—I'll lead you as far as you are willing to go, regardless if you are a philosophy major or are entirely new to the subject. But be prepared to work with me; philosophy is one of the most challenging sports on the venue—it promotes and demands discipline, dedication and tenacity. But for this very reason, the reward is truly great, that much I can promise you."
