The department's Summer Archaeological Field School provides a practical approach to learning.The Hartwick College anthropology major prepares students to participate fully and successfully in the field and to meet the challenges of a truly global society. Course work and programs offered by the department engage and challenge students to put their developing skills and knowledge into practice. The Department of Anthropology features:

  • award-winning professors;
  • off-campus study opportunities in Jamaica, Russia, South Africa, Nepal, Japan, and Thailand, in addition to programs in many more countries sponsored by other departments;
  • integration of technology in lab and classrooms;
  • access to Hartwick's Yager Museum of Art & Culture, which houses several significant collections of interest to anthropologists and provides opportunities to examine artifacts and curate exhibitions;
  • a summer archaeological field school, which provides a practical approach to learning;
  • research, conference papers, and journal publications in collaboration with professors;
  • and, department funds in support of student research and travel.
