Resources for Students

The Physics Department occupies the first floor of the newly renovated Johnstone Science Center.  We have three large introductory laboratories, as well as several smaller labs that are used for upper level classes and student research.  One room serves as a study room for physics majors.  This room is equipped with tables, chairs and blackboard space as well as a microwave oven, a refrigerator and a coffee pot.

Eight iMACs are located in one laboratory and eight PCs are available in another lab.  The computers are used for various experiments in physics and astronomy.  Each computer is connected to the college network. More about physics department facilities....

The Physics Department also maintains and operates the Ernest B. Wright Observatory which is located at the top of Oyaron Hill on the Hartwick Campus.

Since every student at Hartwick gets a notebook computer when they enroll, students in introductory physics classes can load a copy of PhysWiz on their own computer to use at their own pace.  A 150 page manual which accompanies the programs has questions and problems that are designed to help students to get maximum benefit from using PhysWiz.
