A compelling new exhibit of Drew Harty's large scale, black and white photographs opens to the public on January 7, 2007 in the Community Gallery of The Yager Museum of Art & Culture.
Harty's work centers on a fascination with water and its reflective qualities. His photographs examine how the reflective nature of water can affect and alter our perception not only of the water itself, but of the things found in water: stones, grasses, kelp, currents, waves, reflections.
As Harty writes, "The shapes and patterns are created from the reflective surfaces of objects and appear as disassembled light and dark values floating free from their physical confines. I see a world in which water can look solid and a rock fluid." The photographs draw viewers into the image and invite them to experience the photographer's own free-floating perceptions.
Harty's photographs will be on display through March 25, 2007. The Community Gallery is on the 4th floor of Yager Hall, at the entrance to the Library on the Hartwick College campus. Admission is free.
