Sustainable Living Exhibition: Joining and Rejoining - Sustainable Design at the Pine Lake Environmental Campus by Bob Theis

On view April 24 - August 17, 2003, Wednesday - Sunday, noon - 4:30 p.m., van Ess Gallery, The Yager Museum, Yager Hall

After two new cottages using natural materials–straw bale and cob–were built at the College’s 920-acre Pine Lake Environmental Campus in West Davenport, Theis, with a background in natural building practices and design of sustainable neighborhoods, was invited to create a vision of how the Pine Lake Campus might grow as a living laboratory of sustainable practices.

The exhibition has been created from Theis' vision and the major principles that formed it. The show is intended to give form to possibilities for further work in reestablishing a positive relationship with the Earth, and to stimulate continuing conversation about and exploration of Pine Lake.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Theis will give a gallery talk, "Sustainable Design Is Not What You Think," on Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the van Ess Gallery.  A reception will follow his presentation. Both are free and open to the community.

The Yager Museum is currently open Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4:30 p.m.  There is no admission fee.
