At Hartwick, we believe that a fundamental purpose of a liberal arts college is to prepare students for the world ahead—good jobs, rewarding careers, and interesting lives. That's why we've designed our curriculum and teaching approaches to break down the barriers that separate the classroom from the world. As a Hartwick student, you’ll get to learn "out there" and bring that experience back, making your time in the classroom more engaging and effective.
Add to that a wide range of off-campus internships, collaborative research, our unique January Term, and limitless study abroad opportunities, and you are virtually guaranteed to be connected and ready for the opportunities that lie ahead.
- More than 95% of Hartwick students secure jobs or enroll in graduate school within six months of graduation.
- During J Term, students choose from special opportunities (both on and off campus), including independent study, internships, study abroad, and courses especially designed for intensive study.
- More than 80% of Hartwick students participate in off-campus programs. Hartwick faculty lead J Term programs all over the country and the world to allow students to study subjects in their real-life contexts.
- Hartwick students participate in more than 200 internships each year—earning academic credit and gaining practical experience.
- All Hartwick students complete an original research project of their own—a senior thesis. Students work under close faculty supervision to create a finished project that caps off the major experience.
- Our Pine Lake Environmental Campus, located just eight miles from the main campus, provides countless opportunities. Students conduct biological and environmental research at Pine Lake, design and build ecologically sound buildings, undertake archaeological research, and much more.
- Opportunities for community-based learning and civic engagement allow students to integrate and apply classroom knowledge—while fulfilling community needs. Hartwick has long-term partnerships with over 25 local community organizations.
