Hartwick College is committed to providing equal access and reasonable accommodations to qualified students with disabilities. It is the student's responsibility to self-advocate in the event the student believes there has been unfair treatment with regard to access and accommodations or discrimination based on disability. The student's concerns should be directed to the appropriate persons within 7 days of the incident rather than waiting until the end of the semester.
Matters relating to accommodation determination, test-taking/note-taking procedures, and the use of assisted technology should first be directed to the Coordinator of Disability Services. If the student has concerns about meeting with the Coordinator, then the student should meet with Director of the Office of Advising and Registration. In the event the matter was not resolved to the student's satisfaction, then the student should contact the Dean of Academic Affairs.
Matters relating to faculty not complying with accommodations, or perceived discrimination based on disability, should be directed in the following manner.
1. Meet with the respective professor. If a resolution cannot be obtained:
2. Meet with the faculty member's department chair.
3. In the event the matter was not resolved to the student's satisfaction, then the student should contact the Dean of Academic Affairs.
