Richard Gary enters his sixth season with the Hartwick women's volleyball program. He also doubles as an instructor at the college teaching Freshman Composition, Theatre, and Greek Mythology.
Gary's coaching career started back in the 1993 season as he served as head coach for the University of Oregon's men's club team for two years. He also handled the head coaching duties as a player/coach for two years at the University of Bristol and served as a volunteer head coach for the club team at Thomas Jefferson University in 2004 before coming to Hartwick.
Gary's playing career dates back to 1992 where he played as an outside hitter/middle blocker for the Downtown Athletic Club' 18's Team. The following season, the squad captured the Northwest Champions crown and competed at USVBA Men's 18 Nationals. In 2001-02, Gary handled the captain chores for the University of Bristol's men's team and was a member of the British Universities Men's National squad as well. His teams competed against Ireland, Scotland, The Netherlands, and French University National teams. Gary played one year of Series D men's volleyball in Florence, Italy in 2002-03 before returning to the United States. Currently, he plays club volleyball in Albany.
