College rankings and guidebooks can’t tell you whether Hartwick’s the best fit for you, but they can give you some useful information. CollegeStudentAthletes.com convened a task force of high school counselors to highlight lesser known Division III schools that are worth a second look. Reason given for Hartwick's selection: "Education goes beyond the books. At Hartwick, students put theory to the test. In class, on campus, and through real-world projects, students roll up their sleeves to meet the challenge, putting liberal arts education into practice."

 U.S.News & World Report' ranked Hartwick in the top ten (tied for #9) of schools with "the highest percentage of students who study abroad." U.S.News annually publishes "Top 100 Lists" that highlight school characteristics that prospective students might want to consider when looking for schools with the "right fit."

Washington Post education reporter Jay Mathews ranked Hartwick 22nd among 100 U.S. colleges and universities. He asked guidance counselors and high school teachers to assist in compiling a list of colleges and universities that deserve bigger reputations--"the lesser-known gems ... that students fall in love with once they get to know them ... and that their graduates rave about."
