The Notebook Computer Program

Hartwick is one of the first small liberal arts colleges to be a "notebook PC" college. Every student has a notebook. This is a result of our faculty recognizing that the notebook computer had the potential to transform education and then designing the curriculum to take full advantage of the notebook and access to networked resources. We do not have computer labs in the traditional sense.

We are pleased to announce the selection of the 2008-09 notebook system for the class of 2012:

The Lenovo R61 7733 Microsoft Windows Vista ready* notebook PC features:

• 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo T7500 processor
• 120 GB hard drive
• 14.1 inch Wide TFT 1280 x 800 ( WXGA ) screen
• 2G memory chip (one slot open for optional additional memory)
• Integrated DVD +/-RW
• Built-in wired (Fast Ethernet) and wireless (802.11a,b,g) networking, integrated 56K modem
• 6 cell lithium ion battery
• Four-year manufacturer's warranty covers system failures that are not the result of user damage or misuse.
• Carrying case and network cable

* The machine will be delivered with Windows XP Professional, SP3, because of concerns about Vista's compatibility with several campus-wide applications and services.

We distribute notebook computer systems when new students arrive on campus in the fall.
