Every January, all students choose one month-long course from a wide variety of special opportunities, including internships and courses especially designed for intensive study. J Term opportunities are available both on and off campus—which may include studying abroad or somewhere in the United States.
Some details:
- Students enroll in a single course for the entire four-week term. Students are able to invest themselves completely in focused study or in a practical life learning experience.
J Term is everywhere (well, almost). Every year, close to 300 Hartwick students participate in 15-20 off-campus courses, taught by Hartwick faculty (which means you get credit and a grade). Some of these off-campus courses are open even to first year students, which is why J Term is the way many of our students get their first taste of traveling, living, and studying abroad. January 2010 off-campus programs include:
- Scholarships are available to support students who want to go abroad for J Term. Emerson International Internship Scholarships support students completing an international internship during J Term (and other times of the year). The Duffy Family Ambassador Fund Scholarships help support students who wish to complete an independent/directed study during J Term (and other times of the year, too) in destinations other than the student's home country.
