UTICA, N.Y. - Ashley Granger's goal less than three minutes into the second half propelled Utica to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Hartwick College in Empire 8 women's soccer action Wednesday evening.
The Hawks, who fell to 1-4 overall, took an early 1-0 lead as Alesha Wright (Wilton, N.Y.) executed a chip shot over a diving Utica goalie Ashley Kaufman's head from 15 yards out for her first goal of the year. The ball hit the cross post and bounced in behind the goal line.
Utica tied the game 36 minutes later as Kelly Regan scored on a penalty kick. The game was knotted at 1-1 at intermission.
Early in the second half, the Pioneers took the lead for good as Ashley Granger took a feed from Sarah Richards at 47:22 and converted the eventual game-winning goal. Hartwick goalie Ashley Taylor (Nashua, N.H.) registered 12 saves in the defeat.
Hartwick will return to action Saturday afternoon as it hosts Empire 8 rival Nazareth at Elmore Field. The match begins at 2 p.m.
