Hartwick Edges Stevens in Double Overtime

  September 15, 2007

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Danielle Greene (Woodstock, Vt.) pushed across the game-winning goal in double overtime to pace Hartwick to a 3-2 victory over Stevens Tech in Empire 8 field hockey action, Saturday afternoon at Wright Stadium.

The Hawks, who evened their record to 3-3 overall, trailed 2-1 until late in the second half. Sophomore Samantha Galm (Kingston, N.Y.) knotted the game at 2-2 with her second tally of the year on a pass from Jenny Murphy (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) at 61:54.

After failing to score in the first 15 minute overtime session, Hartwick posted its second victory after regulation play this season at 89:23 as Greene scooped up a pass from Jen Kaye (Altamont, N.Y.) and beat Duck goalie Stephanie Smith for the game-winner.

Stevens, which fell to 4-2, opened scoring 30 seconds before the close of the first half as Kara Borzillo assisted on a goal scored by Lauren Griggs. The Hawks tied the game in the ninth minute of the second half as Amanda Barton (Endicott, N.Y.) posted her second goal of the year from Amanda Johnson (Reading, Vt.). Not too long following Barton's goal, less than two minutes later, Hillary Paul gave the Ducks the lead once again on a goal at 45:03.

Hartwick goalie Katie Thorpe (South Windsor, Conn.) posted 11 saves in the victory.

The Hawks complete their five-game homestand Tuesday evening as they host Hamilton. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start at Wright Stadium.
