SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Hartwick volleyball team dropped a pair of decisions on the final day of competition at the Union College Tournament, Saturday. The Hawks fell to Vassar 30-14, 21-30, 27-30, 20-30 in the opener and then dropped a 21-30, 33-31, 22-30, 27-30 decision to Union.
In the first match, sophomore Christina Evans (Cedar Hill, Utah), who was named to the all-tournament team for the second consecutive week, posted a team-high 17 kills and 22 digs in the loss, while Abby Cummings (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied eight kills and a team-high 27 digs. Other noteable performances against the Brewers include Kerry Sisson (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) with 26 digs and freshman setter Megan Lemery (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) dishing off 25 assists.
In the loss to Union, Cummings posted 16 kills and a career-high 41 digs, while Kate Simmons (East Kingston, N.H.) added 13 kills against the Dutchwomen. Sisson had another standout performance defensively with 33 digs.
Late Friday evening, the Hawks downed Russell Sage 29-31, 30-26, 30-26, 30-22. Evans led the way for Hartwick with 23 kills and 16 digs, while Cummings chipped in eight kills and 34 digs.
Hartwick, 6-5 overall, returns to action Saturday as it travels to St. John Fisher to participate in a two-day event with Empire 8 schools. The Hawks will tangle with Utica and RIT Saturday. Games begin at noon and 5 p.m.
