ONEONTA, N.Y. - Stevens Tech won all three doubles and four of six singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over Hartwick in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Hartwick Tennis Complex.
The Hawks got their two victories from Lexi Andrus (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Kim Post (Nashua, N.H.). Andrus, who lost the first set in a tiebreaker, trailed 5-2 in the second set. The senior fought off four match points; forced a third set and then defeated Rebecca Ryba 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 (11-9) in a third set pro-set at the number five singles spot. Andrus fought off two additional match points in the third set breaker. Post defeated Natalie Schloeder 6-3, 7-5 at number six singles.
The Ducks received victories from Dana Bacalla, Whitney Bender, Allyson Kingman, and Kendra Appleheimer. Bacalla defeated Betsy Breaznell 6-1, 6-0 at number one; Bender posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jennifer Linn at number two; Kingman recorded a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Lauren Aquino at number three, and Appleheimer defeated Anne Neely 6-1, 6-1 at number four.
In doubles, the tandem of Bacalla and Kingman defeated Breaznell and Linn 8-2; Bender and Ryba registered an 8-3 victory over Aquino and Andrus, while Appleheimer and Schloeder downed Christina Sorrentino and Rebecca Sarro 8-4.
Hartwick, now 2-3, will return to action Wednesday as it takes on Oneonta State. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start at Oneonta's campus.
