ONEONTA, N.Y. - Hartwick's Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) and Jennifer Lin (Albany, N.Y.) each posted straight set victories at the top of the singles line-up, however, it wasn't enough as city rival Oneonta State downed the Hawks 6-3 in women's tennis action, Wednesday afternoon.
Breaznell made short work at number one singles with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 decision over Katie Wlodarczyk, while Lin downed Emily Shannon 6-4, 6-2 at the number two singles spot. Kim Post (Nashua, N.H.) battled back from a set down to record a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over Savannah Keicher at number six.
The Red Dragons posted victories at three, four and five singles. Dana Kuroski downed Lauren Aquino (Loudonville, N.Y.) 6-3, 6-4 at number three; Leann Shaw posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anne Neely (Milton, Mass.) at four, while Victoria Shannon edged Lexi Andrus (Binghamton, N.Y.) 6-2, 4-6 (10-2). Oneonta opened the match by winning all three doubles.
Hartwick, 2-4 overall, returns to action this Saturday as it travels to face league rival Elmira College. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
