ALFRED, N.Y. - Alfred captured five of six singles matches en route to posting a 6-3 victory over Hartwick in women's tennis action, Sunday morning. The Hawks rebounded with a convincing 9-0 win over Keuka College on the way back to Oneonta.
Freshman Jennifer Lin (Albany, N.Y.) was the lone victor for the Hawks in singles competition against Alfred as she registered a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Jodi Butterfoss at the number two spot.
Hartwick opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches. The tandem of Lauren Aquino (Loudonville, N.Y.) and Anne Neely (Milton, Mass.) downed Butterfoss and Desiree Woods 8-5 at number two, while Lexi Andrus (Binghamton, N.Y.) teamed with Rebecca Sarro (Newburgh, N.Y.) to record a 9-7 decision over Autumn McClain and Holly Seidewald.
In the second match versus Keuka, Lin pushed her win streak to seven with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Beth Kushner at number two singles. Betsy Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) rebounded from an earlier set back to win 6-0, 7-6, 7-5 over Megan McGowan at the top spot. Hartwick also recrived wins from Neely, a 6-2, 6-3 win at number three; Andrus at number four with a 6-0, 6-2 win; Kim Post (Nashua, N.H.) won 6-0, 6-1 at number five, while Joanna Rudy (Bridgeport, N.Y.) captured a victory at number six.
Hartwick swept all three doubles as Breaznell and Lin grabbed an 8-2 victory at one; Neely and Christina Sorrentino (Sherrill, N.Y.) had an 8-4 win at number two, while Andrus and Sarro tallied an 8-1 win at number three.
The Hawks, 3-4 overall, will travel to face Union Tuesday afternoon. The match gets underway at 4 p.m. in Schenectady.
