Angie Brenwalt ’08

Hometown: Dover, Delaware
Major: Business Administration, German, and Political Science

Key Hartwick Activities: Pre-Law, College Democrats, Dance Team, Alpha Omicron Pi, Beyond Boundaries (specifically arthritis advocacy), Order of Omega, Pi Sigma Alpha, Tri Beta, Sigma Beta Delta

Career Plans: My ultimate career plan is to do international corporate law. Eventually, I might look into lobbying. I'm very interested in practicing for an American firm internationally.

Major decisions: My mom always said I should be a doctor and my dad always said I should be a lawyer. I was really interested in medicine and really set on pre-med, but I was also looking at doing a business administration minor. After three semesters of pre-med, I didn't know if this was really going to be the best thing for me. I had been taking business classes, then added a political science class, and really liked it. The next semester, I thought I'd try political science as a major, and that worked out. After that, I did a J Term internship for an attorney in Delaware, and I was sold. That pretty much settled me. Since I was also doing a German major, it all progressed together. I started doing more and more research, and international law just fit. It all came together perfectly.

Special Experiences: The internships are a big help, and with career services, it's just tremendous. Without that, I might still be searching for where I really want to go. My internship was a very good experience. This past year, I went to England and did a research project on public policy and religion in education for England compared to the United States. That really got me interested in comparative international politics. Study abroad was definitely a big experience for me. With the help of the Detweiler Global Fund/Oxford fellowship established by Emeritus President Richard and Mrs. Carol Detweiler, I'm studying at Harris-Manchester College, Oxford University for my last semester.

About my professors: Generally speaking, the professors here are amazing. I have a lot of friends who go to public universities and don't even know their professors. My professors are great and they help me whenever I need it.

Specifically, there's probably one professor in each of my majors with whom I have really worked well with. Wendell Frye, obviously, is amazing with German, and he is so helpful. He's helping me apply for a Fulbright fellowship in the fall.

John Clemens in the Business Administration Department has been absolutely amazing in helping me with Oxford, and he's a great mentor. He has such good networking connections, and he makes sure his students are getting the best business administration education possible. That is his passion.
