The Kresge Foundation Challenge

Help Hartwick meet the goal

In September, 2007 the prestigious Kresge Foundation recognized Hartwick College's solid future and the importance of the Golisano Hall project by awarding the College a $750,000 challenge grant. Under the terms of the grant, Hartwick is required to raise the remaining funds for the building by June, 2008 in order to receive the grant.

We're down to the home stretch, and Hartwick needs the financial support of its vibrant community to meet this challenge. We have come together to commit $11.6 million to the project to date, so in order to receive Kresge's $750,000 for Golisano Hall, the Hartwick community must raise an additional $1 million.

Alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends are all crucial parts of Hartwick. Together, we are this institution. Together, we are Hartwick. Please be a part of this historic opportunity for the College. Give today.

What is The Kresge Foundation?

The Kresge Foundation is a private, national foundation established in 1924 by Sebastian S. Kresge to promote human progress. In 2006 it awarded approximately $150 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa and Mexico and had year-end assets of $3.3 billion. The foundation is headquartered in Michigan.

The Challenge Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations that are engaged in comprehensive campaigns designed to support institutional growth through the construction of new facilities as well as the acquisition or renovation of existing facilities, the purchase of real property, and the purchase of major integrated equipment systems.

The Foundation stated in its award letter to Hartwick that is was favorably impressed with the College's plan to raise the contributions needed to complete the project.

"Through a comprehensive fundraising plan seeking leadership level naming gifts as well as broad-based project support, the College will satisfy this required $2.2 million target by June 2008," said Seth Haight, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. In the leadership phase of the campaign, more than 55 donors made gifts and pledges totaling $9.6 million.

An earlier Kresge Green Building Initiative Planning Grant of $50,000 helped fund the "green" design planning process for the project.
