Harrison Paces Hartwick To Victory Over Becker

  November 18, 2007
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Danee Harrison (Ansonia, Conn.) led four Hawks in double figures as Hartwick downed Becker College 67-59 in the consolation game of the Betty Abgott Invitational, Sunday afternoon at the Buffalo State Sports Arena. The victory was the first win for Interim head coach Karen Powell at Hartwick.

For the second-consecutive game, Harrison led the team in scoring with a team-best 17 points, while Kara Foro (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Katie Caddell (Amsterdam, N.Y.) each added 11 points in the victory. Freshman Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, N.J.) chipped in 10 points, seven assists, and three steals.

Hartwick had a 49-34 advantage on the glass thanks in part to the rebounding efforts of Samantha Galm (Kingston, N.Y.) The sophomore, who opened with a double-double in the loss against Buffalo State, posted a team-high nine rebounds, while Foro and Harrison hauled down eight and seven boards respectively.

Harrison, who was the team's lone representative on the all-tournament team, scored the game's opening basket 14 seconds after tip-off, and the Hawks never relinquished the lead from that point on. Leading 26-21 with 3:20 left in the opening half, Hartwick closed with an 11-2 run to take a commanding 37-23 lead into intermission.

Harrison's lay-in with 15:41 remaining gave Hartwick its largest lead at 47-29. Becker did pull the deficit into single digits at 59-50 with 2:40 left, but the Hawks answered with a 6-0 run to put the game away for good. Everyone on the roster saw action in the win.

Hartwick returns to action, November 26 as they open their home schedule versus Skidmore as part of a men's-women's doubleheader. The game is scheduled for a 6p.m. start at Binder Gym. The men's game with Skidmore will follow 30 minutes after the completion of the women's contest.
