Hartwick Falls to Oneonta State

  December 4, 2007

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Eljawon Arrington  led five players in double figures as Oneonta State posted an 80-69 victory over Hartwick, Tuesday evening in men's basketball action at Binder Gym.

Arrington went three of seven from the floor, but connected on eight of 10 foul shots en route to a 14-point effort. Ronald Stokes and Ryan Morin each chipped in 12, while Robert Fisk (Coeymans, N.Y.) and Maurice Lane added 10 as the Red Dragons improved to 2-3 on the year. Hartwick fell for the second-consecutive time and dropped to 5-2 overall.

With the Hawks leading 6-4, Arrington knotted the game at 6-6 with two free throws and kicked off a 16-0 spurt which gave the Red Dragons a 20-6 lead with 7:34 left in the opening half. The advantage grew to as many as 18, as Oneonta State took a commanding 37-19 lead into intermission.

After the Red Dragons increased the advantage to 48-24 on a four-point play by Fisk with 18:03 left, Hartwick chipped away at the deficit. The Hawks eventually pulled within 56-47 on a free throw by Pat Croutier (Rockville Center, N.Y.) at the 10:23 mark. However, Hartwick couldn't get any closer from that point on as Oneonta State put the game away with a 9-2 run to push the lead to 67-51.

The loss overshadowed the effort of Hartwick's A.J. Beaulieu (Chicopee, Mass.). The sophomore nailed 12 of 19 shots from the floor and five of seven from the charity stripe in a career-high 31-point evening. Beaulieu's previous career-mark was 24 set at Elmira, February 17, 2006. Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, N.J.) added 12 points in the loss, while Albe Hulick (Greenville, N.Y.) chipped in 11 in a reserve role.

Oneonta State connected on 24 of 52 shots (.462) from the floor and 27 of 36 (.750) from the foul line, while Hartwick hit 24 of 54 (.444) from the floor and 15 of 22 (.682) from the foul line. The Red Dragons won the battle of the boards 37-27 as Rob Fitzgerald and Stokes each hauled down eight boards. Hulick led Hartwick's rebounding efforts with eight as well.

The Hawks return to action Friday evening as they host league rival RIT as part of a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Binder Gym.
