ONEONTA, N.Y. - Brianna O'Dell led three players in double figures with a game-high 13 points to pace visiting RIT to a 54-43 victory over Hartwick in women's basketball action, Friday evening at Binder Gym.
Danielle Furman added 12 points and Joanna Dobeck chipped in 11 as the Tigers improved to 3-2 overall (2-1 in E8). The loss sent Hartwick to its fifth-consecutive defeat.
Trailing at intermission, the Tigers used an 11-0 run early in the second half to erase a six point deficit and gave them a 39-34 lead with 9:53 left. The Hawks, who fell to 1-6 overall, pulled within 41-39 on two free throws by
Kara Foro (Schenectady, N.Y.) with 6:09 left, but that was as close as it would get. RIT put the game away with a 10-2 run to get the lead into double figures.
Hartwick scored the game's first five points on a three-pointer by
Samantha Galm (Kingston, N.Y.) and a lay-up by Foro off a steal. After RIT came back to knot the contest at 7-7, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run, which was capped off by a lay-up by
Katie Caddell (Amsterdam, N.Y.) to give them a 14-7 advantage. Hartwick's lead grew to as many as nine at 22-13 with 9:24 left before the Tigers used a 7-0 run to get back into the game. The Hawks took a slim 26-24 lead into break.
Neither team shot particularly well. The Tigers went 18 of 56 (.321) from the floor, while the Hawks were 16 of 66 (.242). RIT won the battle of the boards 48-44 as O'Dell and Dobeck completed double doubles with 11 and 10 rebounds each.
Galm paced Hartwick with an eight-point, nine-rebound evening,
Fritzi Flores (Bergenfield, N.J.) added seven points and six rebounds in the loss.
Hartwick will return to action December 18 as it hosts Union College in its last game prior to Christmas break.
