Hartwick College is poised to open a new unified state-of-the-art academic building for Fall Term 2008 that will provide enhanced, flexible learning spaces in support of Connecting the Classroom to the World.
The building will house Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, as well as Career Services and the Center for Interdependence, effectively linking important academic and experiential learning resources and underscoring Hartwick's unique emphasis on Connecting the Classroom to the World.
Golisano Hall will be a three-story, 36,000 square foot building that will house classrooms, faculty offices, a reception area, a lecture hall, breakout rooms, conference rooms, and study lounges.
The state-of-the-art facility has been designed to strengthen physical linkages with existing facilities among departments across campus to encourage increased interaction between disciplines.
The Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDS) checklist is being utilized as a basis for the environmentally friendly design of Golisano Hall. Site selection will minimize the heat island effect and aim for no net increase in runoff. The building systems will incorporate a sustainable design approach that promotes energy efficiency.
The building will enhance the overall character and quality of facilities, thereby improving recruitment and retention of top- quality faculty and students. It also will integrate practical sustainability features into the overall design approach.
