Sustainable Design

In accordance with Hartwick College's longstanding commitment to sustainability, Golisano Hall is expected to be the first LEED-certified building in the city of Oneonta and Otsego County and one of only 19 LEED-certified buildings in New York State. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

Golisano Hall will rise in the existing parking lot west of Arnold Hall along the campus' main axis of academic buildings. The front face of Golisano Hall will align with the front faces of Bresee and Clark halls-facing the City of Oneonta-and will tie into Johnstone Science Center.

The addition of this building and its landscaping will add substantially more green space and permeable surface to the campus. As part of the project, Arnold Hall will be razed in the fall of 2008. Upon completion of these efforts, Hartwick will feature a new, re-landscaped academic plateau that will be much more attractive, pedestrian friendly and environmentally responsible.
