Cupola Hoisted to Top of State-of-the-Art Golisano Hall

Sitting high atop Golisano Hall, a new piece of Hartwick College's history now watches over Oyaron Hill. On March 20, workers hoisted a 4,000-pound cupola onto the building's roof, carefully maneuvering the dome into place alongside its neighbors on Yager, Arnold, and Bresee halls. Made of aluminum and bearing the Hartwick seal on three of its four sides, the cupola touched down on the top of Golisano Hall at exactly 11:30 a.m.

Kresge Foundation Approves $750,000 Golisano Hall Grant Request

Hartwick College is the recipient of a $750,000 challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation toward the construction of Golisano Hall. The foundation approved the Capital Challenge Grant from among a large pool of competitive applications submitted by non-profit organizations from across the country. The funds will be applied to the construction of the College's new state-of-the-art academic building. The Kresge grant is made on a challenge basis and conditional on Hartwick College raising the balance of funds from other private sources to complete the campaign goal. Campus Construction Projects Make Steady Progress

The Hartwick college campus is a buzz of constant construction activity, with three major projects all in progress this summer. Work on Golisano Hall continues to progress at a steadily. Ground was broken on Golisano Hall in April, and structural steel work is expected to begin later this week. The College expects to open Golisano Hall for Fall Term 2008. The new, LEED-certified green building will provide enhanced, flexible learning spaces to enhance Hartwick faculty and staff in Connecting the Classroom to the World for students.
Campus Community, Guests, Dedicate Golisano Hall

The Hartwick College community gathered near the rapidly rising footprint of Golisano Hall at noon on Friday, May 11, 2007, for the ceremonial dedication of what will soon be the Campus' newest academic building. Also in attendance were B. Thomas Golisano H'04, whose $5 million gift funds a large portion of the building, and State Senator James L. Seward '73 H'99. Golisano emphasized that he was "honored" to support Hartwick, and that he views the gift "as an investment." Golisano is chairman of Paychex, Inc., headquartered in Rochester. He also is the owner of the Buffalo Sabres National Hockey League team, and a three-time candidate for governor of New York.
Murch Foundation Commits $100,000 to Golisano Hall

The Murch Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio has made a $100,000 grant in support of Hartwick College's next major capital project, Golisano Hall. Maynard Murch, V, '94 serves on the board of the independent foundation, which was created by his grandfather in 1956. The Murch Foundation has been a strong and consistent donor to The Hartwick Fund, but this grant marks the first such contribution to a Hartwick capital project. "We're gratified that the Murch Foundation saw fit to commit these funds to the Golisano Hall project," said Seth Haight '96, Hartwick's vice president for institutional advancement. "It demonstrates the Foundation's commitment to both the College and environmentally sustainable construction."
Alden Trust Grant Goes to Golisano Hall

Hartwick College has been awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 from the George I. Alden Trust toward the construction of Golisano Hall. $1 Million Commitment Funds Bresee Hall Renovations

Hartwick College has received a commitment of $1 million from the Phelps family of Rochester, NY and Greenwich, CT. Hartwick's Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Seth Haight '96, said that the funds would be used to renovate Bresee Hall, the College's first building, constructed in 1928. College President Richard P. Miller, Jr. said that the gift will contribute to the campaign to raise the funds necessary to undertake various projects related to the construction of Golisano Hall. "The Phelps family are wonderful friends of the College, and we are thrilled and very grateful to them," Miller said.
President Emeritus Wilder Lends Support to Golisano Hall Project

President Emeritus Phil Wilder pledged $100,000 in support for the Golisano Hall project in the fall of 2006. Wilder, who was affectionately known as "Uncle Phil" during his time at Hartwick, served as the College's President for 15 years beginning in 1977. "Phil's gift was unexpected and reflective of great understanding of the importance of the project. We are very grateful," said Hartwick President Richard P. Miller, Jr.
