#22 Stevens Tech Downs Wick

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Virgil Gray led three players in double figures as 22nd ranked Stevens Tech downed Hartwick 75-64, Sunday afternoon in Empire 8 Conference men's basketball action at Binder Gym. With the victory, the Ducks completed the season sweep over the Hawks.

Stevens Tech, which improved to 19-3 overall and 12-2 in league action, received 24 points from Gray, while Anthony Passalacqua contributed 16. Senior Waleed Farid narrowly missed a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

The Ducks broke open a five-point game with an 11-0 run in the first half en route to building the advantage to 27-11 on a jumper by Matt Higgins.  The lead grew to as many as 19 at 32-13 with 2:17 left be fore intermission. The Ducks led 34-18 at the half.

The Stevens lead stayed in double figures virtually the entire second half. Hartwick did pull within 10 on two occasions, the last coming after a three-pointer by A.J. Beaulieu (Chicopee, Mass.) with 10:17 left to get the Hawks to 52-42. The Ducks quickly countered with a 6-0 spurt to get the lead back up to 16 and didn't see the lead dip to under 11 the rest of the way.

Hartwick, now 8-13 overall, 3-9 in league play, was led by Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, N.J.). The junior converted nine of 21 shots from the floor en route to a 25-point, 10-rebound effort. It was Cocozziello's third double-double of the year and fourth of his career. With his effort, he moved into 12th on the all-time scoring list at Hartwick with 1,263 points. Beaulieu finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Ramond Doyley (Yonkers, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

Hartwick returns to action Friday evening as it travels to face RIT. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
