Course Description:
Research and Technology is a one credit academic course designed to provide students with the research and information literacy skills needed to succeed in higher education: knowledge of how to effectively and efficiently conduct research; critically evaluate information and research; cite resources in various style formats and understand the nature of academic integrity. Also included will be refreshers on Power Point and Excel as needed by students. The in-class activities and assignments will explore various types of general and subject-specific reserach tools, and also allow the students opportunities to conduct research for projects they are working on for other classes. The activities will highlight the use of the citation management tool RefWorks to enhance knowledge of citing sources in various style formats. Additionally, there will be discussions of the role of information in a societal context.
Course Meeting Times and Instructor Contact Information:
There will be two sections offered. Both sections will begin the first week in April and end on May 1, and both will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for a total of ten class periods over the course of five weeks. Beth Orgeron's section will meet from 8AM to 9:20AM. Rebekah Ambrose-Dalton's section will meet from 11:15AM to 12:35PM.
