Cocozziello Nets 29 in Loss to Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Joe Canori posted a game-high 30 points and Ryan McAdam added 16 as Nazareth downed Hartwick 90-61 in Empire 8 Conference men's basketball action, Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Flyers, who improved to 17-6 overall and 10-4 in E8 action, led from opening tip to finish. Nazareth used two runs to break open a four-point game to race into intermission with a commanding 48-22 lead. McAdam netted nine points in an 11-0 run as the Golden Flyers broke free of a 13-9 advantage. Leading 32-20 with 4:11 left in the opening half, Nazareth closed the period with a 16-2 run.
Jan Cocozziello (Scotch Plains, N.J.) posted his fourth double-double of the year and fifth of his career with a 29-point, 10-rebound performance. It was his second consecutive 29-point outing of the weekend. In the loss, the junior connected on 18 of 22 free throw opportunities. With his effort, Cocozziello moved into ninth on the all-time Hartwick scoring charts, passing Steve Schweitz. He will enter the final weekend with 1,321 career points, 18 behind Les Miller for eighth.

Kyle Phillips (Ashland, Mass.) and Martin McCann (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each provided six points in the loss.

Hartwick returns to action Friday evening as it hosts Alfred. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Binder Gym.
