Jamie Boulton (Camillus, N.Y.) and
Kelsey Campbell (Camillus, N.Y.) each scored six goals as Hartwick overcame a four-goal deficit in the second half in a 17-15 victory over Oswego State, Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse action at Wright Stadium.
Trailing 14-10 with 19 minutes left, the former West Genesee High tandem rallied to combine for five goals in the 7-1 spurt. Campbell netted five, including notching the tying score, as well as the eventual game-winner with 7:14 left.
Stephanie Nutt (Shirley, N.Y.) provided an insurance goal 26:46 into the second half. Hartwick improved to 1-1 on the year, while the Lakers fell to 0-1.
Hartwick opened scoring with 2:44 gone in the first half as Boulton connected on her first goal of the game. After Rachel Ventresca knotted the contest at 1-1, the Hawks regained the advantage as Campbell deposited a feed from Boulton behind starting goalie Shannon O'Brien at 6:08. Following Oswego goals by Michelle MenDell and Alisha Sarubbi to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead, the Hawks reeled off three straight as
Katie Thorpe (South Windsor, Conn.), Mallory Pelkey (Gorham, Maine), and Boulton each scored to give Hartwick the lead once again at 5-3. The Lakers countered with three of their own to take a 6-5 advantage. Trailing 8-6 with 2:37 left before intermission, the Hawks tied the game up with goals by Boulton at 28:57 and Pelkey with 48 seconds left.
Both teams exchanged goals in the second half to bring the game to 10-10. Following Boulton's goal 4:37 into the period, the Lakers ripped off four consecutive goals, two by MenDell to build the four-goal lead.
In the victory, Boulton posted a career-high point total with six goals and three assists, while Campbell finished with a seven-point afternoon. With her seven-point outing, Campbell breaks into the all-time top 10 list (ranks ninth) at Hartwick for scoring with 184 points, while Boulton's three assists moves her into eighth on the career helper list with 51. Pelkey notched her first two goals of her career and
Tiffany Bishop (Shoreham, Vt.) also recorded her first career goal. Nutt finished with a goal and three assists.
The Lakers were led by MenDell and Ventresca, who each posted five-goal outings. Alisha Sarubbi added two scores in the loss.

Danielle DePerno (Cortland, N.Y.) was credited with her first-ever victory after she entered the game in the first half and made six saves. O'Brien made nine saves in the loss for the Lakers.
The Hawks return to action Monday as they host Wells College at 4 p.m.
