Campbell Nets Seven Goals in Loss to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. -Katie O'Toole scored six goals to propel visiting Oneonta State to a 14-11 victory over Hartwick in women's lacrosse action, Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium.

The Red Dragons, who improved to 4-0 on the year, scored seven-consecutive goals in the first half to rally from a two-goal deficit to take a 7-5 lead into intermission. Brianne Ruzek and O'Toole each provided two goals during that span. With the game tied at 2-2, O'Toole's first marker of the contest with 24:09 left in the first half gave Oneonta State the lead for good.

Trailing 7-2 with 13:20 left in the opening half, Hartwick shaved the deficit with goals from Jamie Boulton (Camillus, N.Y.), Stephanie Nutt (Shirley, N.Y.) and Kelsey Campbell (Camillus, N.Y.) prior to the end of the half.

Oneonta State regained a comfortable advantage by collecting the first four goals of the second half to build an 11-5 lead. After Hartwick received back-to-back goals by Boulton and Campbell with 21:31 and 11:24 remaining, O'Toole put the game out of reach by answering with three consecutive of her own to bring the lead to 14-7.

Campbell took over in the final 2:30 of the contest as the senior planted four goals of her own to cut the deficit to three, the last coming with 27 seconds left.

Oneonta State received three goals from Ruzek, while Michelle Arket added two in the victory. Goalie Eileen O'Toole tallied five saves for the Red Dragons.

The loss overshadowed the performance of Campbell, who collected an eight-point afternoon. The senior finished with seven goals and one assist. Her performance moved her past Emily Dark for seventh on the all-time scoring list with 196 points. She is 15 away from passing Cathy Wood for sixth. Her seven goals also moved her past dark for seventh at Hartwick and needs only four more scores to pass Wood for sixth.

Boulton finished with three goals, while Jen Kaye (Altamont, N.Y.) posted 14 saves in the loss.

Hartwick returns to action Saturday afternoon as it travels to face league rival Utica. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
