HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Dan Riviello (Clyde, N.Y.) and
Sean Barr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) each claimed singles victories, but it wasn't enough as the University of Northwestern Ohio downed Hartwick 7-2 in men's tennis action, Tuesday afternoon.
Riviello, a returning second team all-Empire 8 honoree, downed Bryan Wright 6-3, 7-6 at the top spot of the singles lineup, while Barr picked up his first collegiate victory with a 7-6, 6-3 decision over William Draur at the fourth spot.
The Hawks dropped two three-set results on the afternoon. Senior
Dave Altman (Katonah, N.Y.) fell 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 to Troy Schroeder at number five and
Ryan Hughes (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was downed by Logan Wyse at the sixth spot 6-0, 4-6, 7-5. Evan Carr posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over
Dan Meininger (Cassville, N.Y.) at second singles while Jason Sarno defeated
Eric DesRoberts (Biddeford, Maine) 6-2, 6-2 at three singles.
In doubles action, the Racers captured victories in all three matches. Wright and Sarno downed Riviello and Meininger 8-5 at the top spot; Schroeder and Carr posted an 8-3 win over DesRoberts and Barr, while Altman and Hughes fell to Draur and Taylor Frangie 8-4 at the final doubles spot.
Hartwick, 0-1 on the year, returns to action Wednesday morning, as it plays Principia at 8 a.m.
