ONEONTA, N.Y. - Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand) returned to the lineup and scored four goals to lead 14th-ranked Hartwick past visiting Marist 13-10 in water polo action, Wednesday evening at Moyer Pool.
The Hawks, who trailed 3-1 after the first quarter, rallied by outscoring the Red Foxes 5-2 in the second frame and took a 6-5 lead into intermission. Hartwick stretched the advantage to five goals (11-6) by the end of the third. Trailing 2-0 early, Hartwick got on the board at 4:08 on as
Kaitlin Leonard (Montreal, Quebec) scored the first of her three goals on the evening. The Red Foxes, who fell to 19-7, pushed their lead to 3-1 as Hillary Schroeder scored her second goal of the opening period. The Hawks tied the game at 3-3 on goals by Hudson and Leonard, 34 seconds apart at 7:39 and 7:05 respectively. Less than a minute later,
Ellen Sevigny (Mount Desert, Maine) gave the Hawks their first lead of the game at 4-3. After Marist tied the contest at 4-4 on Rosie Pauli's only goal of the game, Hartwick took the lead for good with 4:13 left in the second as Sevigny answered with her second of the evening.
Hartwick led 13-7 following Hudson's final goal of the contest with 6:01 left. The Red Foxes scored the final three goals of the game, two of them by Katelin McCahill. The junior finished with four goals for Marist.
Hartwick's
Jessica Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand), who ranks second in the nation in saves, tallied 14 stops on the evening, while Marist senior Elizabeth Davis made 17 saves in the loss.
The Hawks, 20-10 overall, return to action Saturday as they travel to Boston to square off with Harvard at 2 p.m. Following the clash with the Crimson, Hartwick will end its regular-season by playing CWPA foe Brown at Wheaton College's Natatorium.
