UTICA, N.Y. - Hartwick's Vito DeMola (Holtsville, N.Y.) continued his torrid scoring pace with five more goals as the Hawks ended a three-game losing streak with a 15-8 victory over Utica in an Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse match-up, Wednesday afternoon.
Hartwick, now 4-6 overall and 2-4 in league action, ran into intermission with a commanding 10-0 lead.
Chris Vogler (Lynnfield, Mass.) gave the Hawks the lead for good with 5:17 left in the opening quarter.
Tyler Beeson (Downingtown, Pa.) started a three-goal Hartwick spurt in the matter of 36 seconds with his first goal of the year at 1:27. Twenty two seconds later, Vogler connected with his second goal of the quarter, while
Tim Gill (Massapequa, N.Y.) picked up his first goal of the season with 51 seconds left.
Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J.) opened scoring 55 seconds into the second quarter with his ninth of the year. At 11:39, DeMola pumped in the first of his two goals in the period to increase the lead to 6-0.
Brendan Hamel (Hingham, Mass.), Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Ryan Kloss (Hillsborough, N.J.) each added goals in the final eight minutes to close the scoring in the opening half.
Utica, which fell to 3-9 overall, got on the board with 9:13 left in the third period as Dave Misiaszek broke the scoring drought. DeMola answered 50 seconds later as Hartwick regained a 10-goal advantage. The Pioneers netted the final goal in the third. After Utica opened scoring in the fourth,
Dylan D'Alessio (Huntington, N.Y.) posted his first collegiate goal at 13:46 and then DeMola added two more goals with 8:00 and 5:34 left in the quarter. Utica scored the game's final four goals.
John Meade (Fire Island, N.Y.) collected nine saves and gave up four goals, before handing over the goalie duties to
Ryan Twardowski (Emmaus, Pa.). The sophomore made one save in the final minutes of the game.
Hartwick will return to action Saturday afternoon as it closes out its 2008 home schedule with nationally ranked and Empire 8 foe, Ithaca. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. at Wright Stadium. Prior to the clash with the Bombers, 10 seniors will be recognized.
